Majid Jowhari becomes the first Canadian federal candidate of Iranian heritage

More than 1,000 members of the Liberal Party of Canada voted on Sunday, September 7th to select the candidate that will represent their party in the riding of Richmond Hill, come the 2015 federal elections. After an exciting and engaging race, not to mention the vote count going to the third ballot, Majid Jowhari was the acclaimed winner.

“I am so honored and thrilled to have been elected to represent the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of Richmond Hill,” said jubilant Jowhari upon hearing the final results. “I now intend to get down to work preparing for the upcoming election campaign.”

Married with two children, Majid was born to a middle class family in Iran. He moved to Canada in 1979 and became a Canadian citizen soon after. A successful entrepreneur, with a degree in industrial engineering as well as an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business, Jowhari has become the first Canadian federal candidate of Iranian heritage.
