Man charged with robbery of sex trade workers

Investigators with the York Regional Police Drugs and Vice Unit have charged a 33-year-old man following the robbery of a sex trade worker in Markham.

On Sunday, November 23, 2014, police attended a hotel in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Lanark Road for a robbery. Investigators believe that a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old female sex trade worker had been in the same hotel room with a man. While in the room the man used physical force on both victims to steal cash. Following the robbery, the man exited the hotel room and fled the scene in his vehicle prior to police arrival.

On Wednesday, November 26, 2014, the suspect was arrested at his residence in Markham. On that same day, search warrants were executed on the suspect’s residence and police located evidence in relation to the original offence as well as an indoor marihuana grow operation. |

Mr. Iranshani will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on December 10, 2014.
