Fatal pedestrian collisions on a speedy rise: Toronto Police

Toronto police have released a new public safety video amid what they say is the fastest rise in fatal pedestrian collisions since 2002.

Police say 41 pedestrians have been killed this year – making up 55 percent of all traffic fatalities in Toronto in 2016.

Twenty-seven of those fatalities – nearly two-thirds – involve seniors.

Toronto Police Service Traffic Services says the Be Alert Be Seen video urges pedestrians to cross at designated locations and never assume that drivers can see you – but also says drivers and cyclists need to be aware of their surroundings.
