New rules could stifle burgeoning industry: Ontario Craft Distillers

Some distillers say the province is stifling what could become a burgeoning industry in Ontario, despite new rules that are allowing some of them to keep more money from their own sales.

The rules – enacted earlier this year – change the revenue margin for distillers with on-site retail stores – although a member of the Ontario Craft Distillers Association says that only accounts for a few distillers in the province.

Charles Benoit says that what’s really needed from the Wynne government is a graduated system, where smaller distillers pay less taxes.
