Police have issued a warning to event planners about a scam connected to the Toronto International Film Festival.
Police say a man posing as a producer from a production company has been soliciting event planning companies to organize an event around the time of the festival.
They say the man provides a fraudulent cheque to secure guest speakers – and the planners are then instructed to send the fee for the speakers to a talent agency in the United States that does not exist.
Three victims bilked out of a total of more than 162-thousand dollars have come forward so far but police are concerned there may be other victims.
