Newmarket – The Regional
Municipality of York has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for
2020 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. – the country’s largest publisher of quality
“On behalf of York Regional Council, I am very pleased our organization has been recognized as a top place to work in the Greater Toronto Area,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “Our Regional staff, many who live in the communities they serve, continuously strive to provide an exceptional customer experience to the 1.2 million residents and 52,000 businesses who rely on our programs and services each and every day.”
Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, administered through the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, is in its 14th year and has become the benchmark in the Greater Toronto Area for workplace best practices.
Winners each year are evaluated on the same eight criteria as the national competition: physical workplace, work atmosphere and social, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development and community involvement.
Several reasons York Region was selected as a top employer include:
- Ongoing support to employee health and well-being
- Providing opportunities for employees to grow and develop new skills, including engaging with the next generation of employees and supporting a culture of continuous learning
- Engaging with partners in the administration of programs and initiatives centred around diversity and inclusion, including the Inclusion Charter of York Region
“York Region continues
to be recognized by Mediacorp Canada – both locally and nationally – as an
employer of choice,” said Bruce Macgregor, York Region’s Chief Administrative
Officer. “This latest recognition as a top employer in the Greater Toronto Area
is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our talented team of over
4,000 staff to provide cost effective, quality services that respond to the
needs of our rapidly growing communities.”
